Holiday Giving Project
For more than 10 years, the South Bay JACL has partnered with the Little Tokyo Service Center to serve community members in need of extra support through the Holiday Giving Project. South Bay JACL members and friends have generously donated several hundred dollars each year to share the spirit of "kansha" and gratitude with families who are receiving services from LTSC.
Many people assume that Japanese people and Japanese American families are financially stable and don't suffer from hardships. This is not necessarily the case. Culturally, it is very difficult to overcome shame and ask for help, so problems may remain hidden. This is why the South Bay JACL offers support for people to get back on their feet again.
Over the years, we have helped celebrate the holidays with Japanese American and/or South Bay area families that are economically distressed due to the loss of jobs, struggling with depression or trauma, recovering from substance abuse, or starting a new life as survivors of domestic violence.
If you would like to participate in the Holiday Giving Project in the future, please join us at the annual Holiday dinner or contact support(at)southbayjacl.org for more information.
